Lead retrieval is the process of collecting data on tradeshow attendees that visit exhibition booths. It may happen in the form of collecting business cards, jotting down names and numbers on a napkin or through an automated system that scans a barcode on an attendee's badge that contains all of the person's demographic information in a data file.

   
An automated system — often involving barcodes, or Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology — also offers a way to qualify the prospective customer by answering specific questions about the attendee.

Keeping track of visitors at a tradeshow can be an overwhelming task once the exhibitor has spent thousands of dollars to be a part of the tradeshow floor. Automated systems save the exhibitor time in preparing the data in an easily read file that is compatible with all major spreadsheet programs.
